私が（かつて日本は仏教国で牛を大事にして殺さない国だったが、
白人は日本に乗り込んできて、牛を食らったじゃないか、日本では牛を殺すほうが
よほど邪悪だと思われていたんだが）と応戦しても、納得するどころか、

In Japan, we didn't try to kill cows, it was almost law, because
religion and politics were combined. Our ancestors thought we
would go to hell if we killed them and sidestepped the place
where they died. Killing cow evoked
ominous feeling..We even told each other cows had toxic
consequences
,it's just like you insist dolphins have mercury, you say so
because
you want us not to eat them, just like that. BUT westerners
did want to eat them even in Japan.

Gyokusen-ji today has a monument decorated with the image of a
cow, which the temple claims to mark the site where the first
four-legged animal to be slaughtered for human consumption was
