US to lower flag to end Iraq warLatest
The flag of American forces in Iraq has been lowered in Baghdad, bringing nearly nine years of US military operations in Iraq to a formal end.
The US Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, told troops that the mission had been worth the cost in blood and dollars.
He said the years of war in Iraq had yielded to an era of opportunity in which the US was a committed partner.
Most of the 5,500 US soldiers who remained have now left, with the Iraqi authorities taking charge of security.
The symbolic ceremony in Baghdad officially "cased" (retired) the flag of US forces in Iraq, according to army tradition.
It will now be taken back to the United States.
Mr Panetta told US soldiers they could leave Iraq with great pride.
"After a lot of blood spilled by Iraqis and Americans, the mission of an Iraq that could govern and secure itself has become real," he said.
Some 4,500 US soldiers and more than 100,000 Iraqis have died in the war.

Russian protests biggest in years
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said protests over alleged fraud in parliamentary elections are acceptable if demonstrators stay within the law.
He said he would ask for web cameras to be installed at all polling stations in time for the March presidential election in which he will be standing.
But he insisted the results reflected the balance of political forces and he was scathing about some protesters.
Mr Putin was speaking in an annual televised live chat with the nation.
After serving two terms as president from 2000 to 2008, Mr Putin was obliged under the Russian constitution to step aside after his second term but is now entitled to stand again.
"The fact that people express their opinion... is an absolutely normal thing as long, of course, as everybody acts within the framework of the law," he said, after protests on Saturday which saw around 50,000 people turn out in Moscow alone.

A French court has given former President Jacques Chirac a two-year suspended prison sentence for diverting public funds and abusing public trust.
Mr Chirac, 79, was not in court to hear the verdict because of ill-health but denied wrongdoing.
President from 1995 to 2007, he was put on trial on charges that dated back to his time as mayor of Paris.
He was accused of paying members of his Rally for the Republic (RPR) party for municipal jobs that did not exist.
The prosecution had urged the judge to acquit Mr Chirac and nine others accused in the trial. Two of the nine were cleared. The other seven were found guilty.
In 2004, during his presidency, several figures including France's current Foreign Minister Alain Juppe were convicted in connection with the case.
Mr Juppe was given a 14-month suspended sentence.

Jacques Chirac, mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995, is the first former French head of state to be convicted since Marshal Philippe Petain, the leader of the wartime Vichy regime, was found guilty in 1945 of collaborating with the Nazis.
Our correspondent in Paris said the verdict would come as a surprise to the French public because the prosecution said it had not been proven that Mr Chirac had known of individual cases of fake jobs.
It will be seen as a stain on his character, our correspondent adds.

１４日午前１１時３０分ごろ、山形市鉄砲町２丁目の県立山形中央高校（遠藤啓司校長、
生徒数８４０人）の校舎１階の地学教室から出火、窓のカーテン（縦２２２センチ、幅４００センチ）１枚が燃えた。
山形署によると、教諭らが消火器で消し止め、けが人はないという。
調べでは、出火当時、地学教室には誰もおらず、向かいの教室で授業をしていた
教諭が火災に気づいたという。カーテンの近くにはＯＨＰ（投影機）があり、焦げていたという。
近くに火の気がないことから、同署はＯＨＰが光を集めて火がついた可能性も視野に原因を調べている。

実は彼、2011年の初旬にジゴルチェのウェディングドレスをまとってファッションショーに登場し話題となった。
その彼が今度はオランダのメーカーのモデルに抜擢された。それもなんと、女性用下着のモデルである。
彼は「mega push-up bra」というブラジャーを着用し、ポスターに登場しているのだが、どう見ても女性にしか見えない。
それもかなりの美人だ。街ですれ違ったらきっと振り返ってしまうに違いないほどの美人！
メーカーによると、胸のない男性が着用しても、違和感がないブラであることをPRするために、彼を起用したとのこと。
たしかに男性の彼でも、胸元に違和感をまったく感じない。むしろセクシー。
元が美しい顔立ちであることに間違いないのだが、これだけ美しい女装男性があらわれることになるとは……。女装子、侮りがたし！
