他意のない海外の選手ほど内村の凄さを理解してる
「October's World Championships are the next thing on the horizon on the road to Rio 2016,
and Whitlock for one is ready to take the challenge to the best
in the business, his idol and gymnastics superstar Kohei Uchimura.
Uchimura, 25, has won an unprecedented four successive all-around titles -
the blue riband event in gymnastics - and will aim for his fifth
in China this autumn.
While Whitlock is modest enough to hold back on throwing down the gauntlet to his hero,
he is hoping to at least test the Japanese gymnast and push for a place on the podium among
the best in the world.
"It's been an amazing competition and is one of my favourites by far," Whitlock said as
the Glasgow Games drew to a close. "It's just been an amazing experience
and has put us in really good stead for the worlds coming up.
"Uchimura is unbelievable and he won't be beaten for a long time, I think.
I'm looking to get the highest score I can and, if I can come close to Uchimura,
I would be honoured.
"I'd like to think I'm on his radar. I'd like to think he knows,
but that guy is one of a kind."」
