連合軍に救出されイギリスに渡り、必死に同化しようと努力する。 新聞を読めるようになったそんなMishaにトムが薦めたのがディッケンズ の小説であった。 Tony was taking two Dickens novel back to the library. He was an enthusiastic Dickens fan, and he encouraged me to give him a try. I protested that his books would all be too long and too difficult for me, Tony disagreed, advising me to start with Oliver Twist as I would find the subject matter immediately appealing! And that, in brief, is how I acquired a sort of tutor, or mentor. My confidence and my spoken and written English improved in leaps and bounds as a result.(Beyond the Wall.281頁)
