This was the week when many of the president’s pernicious deceptions boomeranged
on him. It was redolent of the “Night on Bald Mountain” scene in “Fantasia,’’
when all the bad spirits come out in a dark swarm.
The man whose father told him there are only killers and zeros, the man who cruelly
castigated others as losers, the man who was taught to fear losing above all else,
has been doing some very public losing of his own.
Upsetting as it is to see the president and first lady facing a mortal threat ? and
the glee and memes from some on the left were vulgar ? it was undeniable that
reality was crashing in on the former reality star.

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) ? President Donald Trump went through a “very concerning”
period Friday and the next 48 hours “will be critical” in his care as he
battles the coronavirus at a hospital, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows
said Saturday. Meadows’ comments contradicted the rosy assessment of Trump’s
condition offered by his staff and doctors, who took pains not to reveal the
president had received supplemental oxygen at the White House before his hospital
admission.

the public at a press conference at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The briefing by Navy Commander Dr. Sean Conley and other doctors raised more
questions than it answered as Conley repeatedly refused to say whether the

began exhibiting “clinical indications” of COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon,
earlier than previously known.

Conley said Trump’s symptoms, including a cough and nasal congestion, “are
now resolving and improving,” and said the president had been fever-free for
24 hours. But Trump also is taking aspirin, which lowers body temperature
and could mask or mitigate that symptom.
“He’s in exceptionally good spirits,” said another doctor, Sean Dooley.

主治医や医療チームによると、せきや鼻づまり、倦怠感といった入院前に確認された症状は

Biden’s leads are within each poll’s margin of error, but taken together point
to an advantage for the Democratic nominee. The surveys were conducted Wednesday
through Friday, after the debate in Cleveland on Tuesday but mostly before
Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis early Friday morning.

トランプ氏は討論会中、相手の発言を頻繁に遮るなど不規則発言を繰り返し、メディア

の）内容ではなく人柄によるものであるのは明らかだ」と指摘した。今回の入院がトラ

Most Americans continue to be deeply worried about the virus, and the poll
found that 65%, including 9 in 10 registered Democrats and 5 in 10 registered
Republicans, agreed that “if President Trump had taken coronavirus more
seriously, he probably would not have been infected.”
