The busiest hospitals in Houston are increasingly telling emergency responders
they cannot safely accept new patients as hundreds of coronavirus patients crowd
emergency rooms, and hospitals scramble to open more intensive care space.

HOUSTON ? Houston hospitals have been forced to treat hundreds of COVID-19 patients
in their emergency rooms ? sometimes for several hours or multiple days ? as they
scramble to open additional intensive care beds for the wave of seriously ill people
streaming through their doors, according to internal numbers shared with NBC News
and ProPublica.

At the same time, the region’s 12 busiest hospitals are increasingly telling emergency
responders that they cannot safely accept new patients, at a rate nearly three times
that of a year ago, according to data reviewed by reporters.

On Thursday, 3,812 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the region, including more
than 1,000 in intensive care units, a record since the pandemic began. At the same
time, since Texas officials have not issued another stay-at-home order to slow the
virus’ spread, hospitals are also still seeing a steady flow of patients in need of
care as a result of car accidents, violent crime and heat-related medical emergencies.

personnel who have specialized training and experience caring for critically ill
patients in need of specific medical interventions, whereas the mission of emergency
department medical workers is to quickly assess patients, stabilize them and get
them to where they need to be.
“The problem is you can’t get them to where they need to be, and now it puts the
ER doc in the position of having to function like the hospitalist or the intensive
care doctor, and that’s not a role that we’re really supposed to be in,” said
Dr. Cedric Dark, an emergency physician at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
“The bad thing about having any patient boarded in the emergency department,
regardless of the situation, is that it slows down the beginning of care for somebody
who needs hospitalization, and the beginning of care for any medical condition is
the most crucial period of time.”

The campaign’s lack of safety protections were visible during Vice President
Mike Pence’s visit to the office last month, during which he posed for a photo
with more than 70 campaign staff, closely packed together and without wearing
face coverings ? an image that infuriated local officials, who called on Virginia
Gov. Ralph Northam to take action and enforce state public health orders on
universal masking indoors and social distancing. But Northam, a Democrat, ultimately
declined to do so.
“The governor’s office did not want to get bogged down in a political fight,”
said an individual familiar with those discussions, adding that Northam’s team
concluded that his orders should be viewed as guidance. “They basically ducked a
fight with the administration over this.” Northam’s office did not respond to
requests for comment.
Facing no threat of enforcement, the Trump campaign has continued to make its own
rules on coronavirus protections, said the individuals, who requested anonymity
to speak freely. For instance, staff have been told to wear masks outside the
office, in case they’re spotted by reporters, but they’ve been instructed that
it’s acceptable to remove them in the office, the individuals said, adding that
staff also publicly joke about the risk of coronavirus and play down the pandemic’s
threat.

In a letter sent to the editor in chief Matt Murray in late June, obtained by
the New York Times on Friday, the staff members ? only referred to as “members
of the WSJ newsroom” ? requested the newsroom “appoint journalists to cover
‘race, ethnicity and inequality'; name two standards editors specializing in
diversity; conduct a study of the race, ethnicity and gender breakdown of the
subjects of The Journal’s ‘most prominent and resource-intensive stories';
and bring more diversity to the newsroom and leadership positions,” the Times
reported.
The newsroom staff also said in the letter that the Journal’s “newsroom
practices are inadequate for the present moment” because its “coverage has
focused historically on industries and leadership ranks dominated by white men,”
according to the Times, and that the paper needed to rethink the way it covered
workers in comparison to company executives and government officials.

30?50万円/月、それ以上も全然あります。
その料金でも昼ごはんを提供してくれないところも普通にあります。午後3時以降の延長料金
は別で1分単位で追加料金取られたりします。

経済再開を率先して進めたテキサス州のアボット知事、最近は「バーの再開を遅らせれば
良かった」と悔恨の意を示しているが、今やテキサスでマスクを着用しない人に対して
「ロックダウンを避ける唯一の方法はマスクをつけて感染拡大を防ぐしかない。ロックダ

米フロリダ州、コロナ感染歯止めかからず ディズニー再開控え
［１０日 ロイター］ - 米国の新型コロナウイルス感染の新たなホットスポットとなって
いるフロリダ州で、１０日の新規感染者数が１万１４３３人となり、過去２番目の多さと
なった。１１日には米娯楽大手ウォルト・ディズニー(DIS.N)のテーマパーク「ウォルト・
ディズニー・ワールド」の営業再開が予定されており、一段の感染拡大が懸念されている。
フロリダ州は新型ウイルス感染で入院している患者数は公表していないが、州内の多くの病
院が今週に入り、集中治療室（ＩＣＵ）の収容能力が限界に達したと報告。今週初めの時点
で新型ウイルス検査の陽性率は１９％だった。
こうした中でもウォルト・ディズニーは、オーランドにあるウォルト・ディズニー・ワール
ドの営業を１１日に再開する計画。入場者を限定するなどの措置を取るが、従業員を含め約
１万９０００人が再開延期を求める要望書に署名した。
トランプ米大統領はこの日、選挙活動の一環としてフロリダ州を訪問している。
米国の感染者数の累計は３００万人を超え、感染による死者数は１３万３０００人を超えて
いる。ロイターの集計によると、４４州で過去２週間でその前の２週間と比べ感染者数が増
加した。
この日の新規感染者数はジョージア州が４４８４人と過去最悪を記録。ルイジアナ州、モン
タナ州、オハイオ州、ウイスコンシン州でも新規感染者数が過去最悪となった。
